Tubular bases can be used with tubular props to increase the stability of a stack.  Especially where a tall stack of props is required the prop is place in the base.  These bases can also be used at the top of the stack, inverted.  This helps spread the load for the shelf above to reduce the risk of cracking kiln shelves because through weight.
