Barium Carbonate, precipitated, is used as a secondary flux in high temperature glazes and also to prevent "scumming" in clay bodies (up to 2.5%). No more than 3% will be used in industrial glazes as it can still be leached from stoneware glazes. Produces distinctive turquoises in combination with copper at stoneware. It should be remembered that barium is a poison, care should be taken at all times.
