ST222 Kiln Controller (Kiln-sitter Upgrade Kit)

This kit contains all the equipment necessary to upgrade your exsisting 13A Plug in Kiln (presently using a Kilnsitter) to a fully temperature controlled kiln using a ST222 controller.

  • 1 x ST222 Plug in controller ( you choose a 13A UK version or a 16A European Schuko version)
  • 1 x ST222 Wall Bracket / Stand
  • 1 x 6 inch Type "R" Labhead Thermocouple
  • 1 x 2m Thermocouple interconnect cable
  • 1 x User Handbook
  • 1 x Installation Handbook

The ST222 is a 9-program plug-in controller designed for general glass, ceramics & pottery use. The controller comes with a 2m lead and 13A plug that plugs into a Domestic 13A Socket. ( A 16A Schuko Plugged variant is available for the European Market). The kiln plugs into the 13A socket on the front of the controller. Each program can have up to 9 segments. It is fully adjustable with heating and cooling indicators & continuous display of segment number. Each segment comprises of a ramp followed by a soak. Ramps can be heating or cooling. The ST222 executes a controlled ramp to the soak temperature where it dwells for the required period then executes the next segment. The end of the program is marked by selecting ‘End’ while entering a ramp rate. Natural cooling then follows.

How it works

Closely examine your kiln, look for a vent hole or inspection hole of a minimum of 12mm diameter that can be used for placing the themocouple into the firing chamber through the kiln outer wall. The position of the hole ideally needs to be between 2/3 rds and 3/4's of the way up from the bottom of the firing chamber floor. Measure the thickness of the kiln wall at this appropriate point, from the outside metal case, to the inner firebrick face and add 1.5" or 36mm to this measurement. Providing this measurement is no greater than 6" (150mm) thats ok. If a longer thermocouple is required then contact us for a price ( the additional cost will only £6 per extra inch). If there isn't a suitable hole you will have to carefully drill a 12mm hole through the case of the kiln - and through the firebrick, to allow a thermocouple to be inserted, taking great care not to damage the heating elements.
